EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION BOOKLET
Ambulance associations, hospitals and medical practitioners nationwide are encouraging people to summarise their medical history, medications, emergency contacts, allergies, etc in a portable booklet attached to their refrigerator door. The Lions Club of Booragoon is supporting this campaign as one of its community projects. Booklets can be purchased from our Club for $2 or bought from the St John Ambulance WA shop for $1.95.
Our Club has distributed 250 complimentary copies to retirement villages in our local area.
The booklet serves several purposes:
- It informs ambulance personnel, family and others of a person’s medical background, current medications, allergies, etc. When ambulance staff visit a private home, they look for the booklet and if available, it accompanies the patient to hospital.
- The booklet is portable and can accompany the owner when they are out-and-about and on holidays. It could actually saves someone's life if they become unwell.
- A person's medical history can be recalled quickly and accurately because all details are recorded in the booklet. This is handy when the owner is required to complete a Patient Information sheet for new doctors and hospitals.
- Information is handwritten into the booklet. If, for example, medications change, the old information can be crossed out and new details added. Extra pages can be enclosed in the plastic wallet.
